October 2016

Get Surrey (27/10/16):  A new local plan for Guildford will not be submitted to the planning inspector until late next year and there will be a further consultation, with "substantial changes" to some of the strategic sites earmarked in the plan.

Guildford Borough Council leader Paul Spooner announced on October 27 that the council would not meet that deadline while a third public consultation will now take place next June.

Cllr Spooner, who is also lead member for planning and regeneration, said he was disappointed about the delay but he was confident the process was moving forward.  “It’s crucial to make sure the plan we submit for inspection tackles local issues as well as balancing community needs across the borough,” he said.  “We have listened to feedback from residents, business, community groups and stakeholders and we now need to follow this up with a targeted consultation about specific changes we proposed to the latest draft local plan.”
